In January 2022 we were told that at 10 weeks our second baby had failed to develop and that in the coming days I would miscarry.
We never had our 12 week scan so our due date stayed as we had predicted, the 1st of August 2022.
One of the hardest parts of the miscarriage was not having any scan pictures, and leaving the hospital with only a prescription for pain relief as if we hadn’t been pregnant at all.
Our ‘due date’ was always going to be a hard day and a day I dreaded coming.
We found out we were pregnant again 5 months later, and that our 12 week scan would be on the 1st of August 2022. Even though I was filled with grief for the baby that could have been arriving that day we were very focused on hopefully seeing our rainbow. It made the day easier to handle emotionally.
I cried the whole way through the scan. The sonographer was a trainee and he was brilliant at acknowledging my distress and quickly showing us that there was a heartbeat.
We left the hospital that day with some positive news that everything was alright and the scan pictures we never got with our baby we lost. Instead of telling family and friends we had had a baby, we were telling family and friends that we were finally expecting our rainbow baby. It was a day filled with every emotion but I’m so happy I now have a happy memory associated with it.
There are many dates in our rainbow pregnancy that meant something to us and I will forever be grateful for these dates that kept me feeling positive amongst the anxiety of pregnancy after loss.
This year we will… This year we will be celebrating a year since we first saw our baby boy who is now with us happy healthy and thriving. We will also be remembering and grieving for our second baby who sadly we never got the chance to meet or see on that ultrasound screen.
