When we found out the news, we were full of excitement and joy
Thinking of names, wondering if you’d be a girl or boy
Going for our first scan, our excitement grew and grew
A truly special moment, when on the screens we saw you
But then at the next scan, the nurse had bad news to impart
For when scanning for our baby, she couldn’t find a beating heart
In that awful moment, our hearts broke in two
Our dreams in tatters, for we’d imagined our future with you
We never got to meet you, or hold you in our arms
Our beloved baby, we couldn’t protect you from harm
We had so many questions, the biggest one is why
Why did it have to be us, why did our baby have to die
Did we do something wrong, that’s the question we ask
And telling our family and friends, is a heartbreaking and daunting task
Although the pain of losing you lessens, as the years go by
There are often many moments, when we think of you and cry
We never got to paint your nursery, or choose your first set of clothes
We wonder who you’d look like, would you have mummy’s eyes or daddy’s nose
We never got to see your first smile, or hear the way you talk
We never saw you ride a bike, or take your first steps and walk
We missed out on so many birthdays, we missed seeing you have fun and play
We never saw you make friends, we missed out on all your school days
We think of you often, our angel baby boy or girl
Never forgotten, always remembered, an important part of our world
Even though you’re not with us, our love for you survives
The brightest star in the sky, we’ll always keep your memory alive
